Applications being accepted for 2017 Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence program in Scarborough
The call has been issued for artists for the 2017 Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence program.
Applications will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 30. Residencies are open to professional artists throughout Canada, including writers, visual artists, musicians and more. Artists can apply to spend one-to-six months at Fool’s Paradise, McCarthy’s picturesque property atop the Scarborough Bluffs.
The residency program was established by the Ontario Heritage Trust, at the request of McCarthy, who died in 2010.
“This property is very much an expression of McCarthy’s creativity and her character,” said Beth Hanna, Ontario Heritage Trust CEO, at an event celebrating the program’s inaugural year in 2015.
“Doris wanted to provide other artists with a place of retreat, the opportunity to live and work at the site that had been such a source of inspiration for her art.”
A renowned Canadian artist who called Scarborough home, McCarthy died in Novemeber of 2010 at the age of 100.
