Explosives prompt evacuations in Spragge
SPRAGGE, Ont. – An OPP disposal unit is on site after police say a “significant” amount of explosives were found in a vacant lot in Spragge, Ont.
The town is about midway between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.
Police say the property owner called them yesterday after discovering the explosives.
As a precaution, adjacent homes were temporarily evacuated and rail service in the area was suspended. Residents were allowed to return to their homes Friday evening and rail service was resumed.
Some homes will be temporarily evacuated again today while the explosives are removed from the site.
Police say they’re still trying to determine how the explosives ended up on the property.
