A teen has been charged after crashing his car into a pizza shop in the Yonge and Lawrence area Thursday night.

Police said a 2016 Mercedes C450 was southbound on Yonge Street when the driver tried to “avoid an obstacle on the roadway” and lost control of the vehicle, which then struck a pole and then a Pizza Pizza shop at Bowood Avenue, a few blocks north of Lawrence Avenue, around 11:05 p.m.

There were no injuries.

“There was damage to the pole, damage to the Pizza Pizza building and obviously the vehicle,” Const. Clint Stibbe said.

An 18-year-old male has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

What was the “obstacle” that the driver was trying to avoid?

“That’s still being looked at to make a determination as to what it was,” Stibbe said.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
