UPDATE: Anastasios Leventis of Quebec man killed in Toronto shooting
Anastasios Leventis of Quebec has been identified as the man shot dead in broad daylight downtown Toronto Monday, Jan. 30.
The 39 year old was shot in the Adelaide and George streets area and pronounced dead at the scene. Toronto police were called to the scene at 2:46 p.m.
“Homicide will be taking over the investigation. We’re not going to be releasing a whole ton more information at this point,” Constable Craig Brister told Metroland Media Toronto after the shooting. “We’re asking people for information, anyone that was in the area to give us a call.”
The suspect fled, but a weapon was recovered, he added. He was not immediately able to say if the victim was male or female, or give any other identifying information.
No suspect description was immediately available.
George Street was closed to traffic between Adelaide and Richmond streets for several hours for an investigation.
Students at George Brown College’s St. James campus, which is in the area of the shooting, were placed on hold and secure until approximately 4:15 p.m.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, police identified Leventis as the man killed. He is Toronto’s fourth murder victim of 2017.
