Youth Without Shelter gears up for annual Tokens 4 Change fundraiser

More than 400 local students and volunteers will take over Toronto’s underground next month for Tokens 4 Change — a 12-hour event aimed at bringing awareness to youth homelessness in the city.

Now in it’s 7th year, the popular annual event will see young buskers descend upon more than 20 TTC subway stations, PATH locations and offices around Toronto on Friday, Feb. 3 to collect donations for Etobicoke’s Youth Without Shelter (YWS).

In exchange, donors will be treated to performances of spoken word poetry, theatre, dance, visual art, and music. All proceeds will go to support transportation costs at YWS, as well as to assist its many essential empowering programs.

As the presenting sponsor of this year’s Tokens 4 Change event, Tangerine will also be transforming its downtown headquarters at 221 Yonge St. into the official Volunteer Hub for the event.

Not only will Tangerine be providing volunteers with refreshments and a warm place to gather, they will also set up a stage for an Arts Showcase hosted by CP24’s Patricia Jaggernauth and featuring performances from a variety of talented Toronto students.

New this year will be a “Celebrity Shift” at the Bloor-Yonge TTC subway station from 3 to 7 p.m., when actors Ennis Esmer (Red Oaks), David Reale (Suits), Natalie Brown (The Strain) and Damon Runyan (Gangland Undercover), will join together with John Catucci, host of You Gotta Eat Here, to lend a hand with the canvas.
